Corporate Social Responsibility: We care

In our capacity as a hospital with Christian tradition, it is our primary concern to offer help to disadvantaged people in our society, even beyond our legal care obligations – at least where our resources enable us to do so.

The Orthopaedic Hospital Vienna-Speising is therefore committed among others to the following selected social projects:

Allianz für Kinder ("Childrens alliance")

The association “Allianz für Kinder”yearly invites about 100 young patients – mainly from Albania, Moldova, Afghanistan and Kosovo – to come to Austria to have life-saving surgeries. Every tenth these patients will be under physicians care at Orthopaedic Hospital Vienna-Speising.

Fund “Mobility as a gift for children”
Medical director Prof. Dr. Franz Grill has initiated a fund for children to pay walking frames and, if necessary, clothes and shoes for sick children in need.

Doctors for disabled
Within the scope of this international aid organisation, our doctors Wurnig, Radler, Riedl and some anaesthesists care for patients in Ghana and Mali and transfer state-of-the-art medical know-how to health care professionals and physicians on site (e.g. promotion of the Ponseti Method for the treatment of clubfoot). During their stays abroad, physicians are exempt from service and receive supplementary donations and necessary medical equipment for their journey.

Neuro-orthopaedic care
Gaining good life quality in spite of incurable paralysis is the aim of neuro-orthopaedic treatment. The neuro-orthopaedic team (Dr. Walter Strobl,  Dr. Alexander Krebs and Dr. Robert Csepan) yearly cares for roughly 200 disabled patients in 28 institutions all over Austria.

Regular supply of aids and appliances, planning of mobility programmes and intensive rehabilitation, partially with minimal-invasive or reconstructive surgeries, help to reach the target. The team regularly organises Austrian and international further educational events and leads the first European university course in “Neuro-orthopaedics – Disability Management” in Speising since 2009.

School at hospital
For more than 90 years, the Orthopaedic Hospital Vienna-Speising has been offering a school for children which enables to them to attend regular school classes during their hospitalisation. Teachers are appointed by the City of Vienna within the scope of “Wiener Heilstättenschule”.

Partnership for charity
Orthopaedic Hospital Vienna-Speising is a partner of this campaign of the Religious Hospitals of Vienna. Within the scope of “Partnership for charity”, financial donations are collected for social projects by benefit events and concerts, e.g. for the project “YoungMum” – Assistance for pregnant teenagers.
