Continuing Medical Education
In several specialized areas, the Orthopaedic Hospital
Vienna-Speising plays an essential role in continuing education for physicians.
Here are some examples:
Academic teaching hospital
In addition to other Vinzenz Gruppe hospitals, the Orthopaedic Hospital
Vienna-Speising serves as an academic teaching hospital for medical students.
Soon-to-be physicians are equipped with knowledge about daily routine at
hospital, medical practice, and the concept of “medicine with soul” that we
share.
Taylor spatial frame
The Orthopaedic Hospital Vienna-Speising offers regular training workshops in
the use of the Taylor spatial frame, an external ring fixator that is used in
cases of extremity reconstruction and leg lengthening. Our Hospital is an
internationally renowned teaching and reference centre in this field.
Neuro-orthopaedics
The neuro-orthopaedic team at the Orthopaedic Hospital Vienna-Speising, a
highly qualified team under the leadership of Senior Physician Dr. Walter
Strobl, conducts the education seminar for neuro-orthopaedics of the Austrian
Society of Orthopaedics. During the seminar, different occupational groups are
trained and further educated in the field of neuro-orthopaedics.
Vertebral disc implantation
Our Hospital plays an essential role in advancing the education of physicians
in the field of implantation of vertebral disc prostheses. Together with the
Medical University of Vienna, we offer courses about the vertebral disc and
produce international live broadcasts of the surgical procedures.
Clubfoot treatment by the Ponseti method
The Orthopaedic Hospital Vienna-Speising is one of the leading European centres
to use the modern Ponseti method for clubfoot treatment in infants as a matter
of routine and with extensive experience. At international workshops, the
Ponseti method is taught to physicians from many countries of the world. As one
example, the Second Vienna Clubfoot Course took place in June 2006 and was led
by physicians from the Orthopaedic Hospital Vienna-Speising.
European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society (EPOS) seminar
As one of his educational responsibilities, University Prof. Dr. Franz Grill
played an essential role in the organisation of the EPOS seminar in Bratislava
in January 2007. The seminar is well known worldwide.
Hand surgery
Hand surgery is also one of the specialities at our Hospital. Every 2 years, we
offer international workshops with live broadcasts of operations in this field.
For 2010, we have planned a large international congress and training seminar
about the topic of Kienböcks disease.
Arthroscopy
Physicians from the Orthopaedic Hospital Vienna-Speising offer arthroscopy days
once a year to train other physicians from all over Europe in this specialized
field. A special arthroscopy learning event is available to physicians from
Central East European countries at the Smith & Nephew Arthroscopy Learning
Centre Speising.
Center of Excellence for Orthopaedic Pain Management Speising
Medical education and advanced training in the fields of prevention,
diagnostics, and pain therapy are conducted by the research centre at the
Centre of Excellence for Orthopaedic Pain Management Speising, which is located
at the Orthopaedic Hospital Vienna-Speising.

All further and advanced training courses for physicians and therapists have
been subsumed under the umbrella brand "Orthopaedic Academy Speising"
